Our Story
It all began in 1951 when our namesake Lawson Field established a farmers’ cooperative for crop dusting in Gisborne. Within a few years, Fieldair had moved to Palmerston North and expanded to 18 bases nationwide, operating 30 aircraft from Tiger Moths to DC3s.
The 1980s brought significant change as we diversified into air freight, establishing crucial inter-island services to bridge New Zealand’s geographic divide. This strategic move caught the attention of Freightways, leading to a partnership that would shape our future. Today, we’ve evolved into a comprehensive aviation services provider, maintaining all types of aircraft as well as providing ground handling and air freight transport.
While we’ve come a long way from our fledgling agricultural days, we still embody our founder’s problem-solving mindset and firm commitment to safety. Our reputation today as one of New Zealand’s most trusted aviation solutions providers is testament to our ability to meet our customers’ needs and deliver consistently exceptional aviation services across the board.
Our commitment to ethical partnerships
At Fieldair, we take pride in doing business with integrity and respect. As part of the Freightways Group, we’re committed to working with suppliers who uphold high standards in ethics, safety, sustainability, and compliance.
To support this, Freightways has introduced a Supplier Code of Conduct outlining the expectations we have for all suppliers across areas such as labour rights, environmental practices, data privacy, and legal compliance.
We believe strong, transparent partnerships build better outcomes for everyone — our team, our customers, and our communities.
