Torque Wrench Calibration

A torque wrench that’s out of calibration can still feel like it’s working properly, even though the readings are no longer accurate. There’s no way to tell just by using it.

We calibrate torque wrenches, torque screwdrivers, dial gauges, micrometres and vernier calipers at our Palmerston North workshop, serving customers across New Zealand.

It’s the same lab and the same process we use for our own aircraft maintenance work, and it’s available to anyone who needs a tool calibrated properly, not just aircraft operators.

What we calibrate

Our torque wrench calibration service covers:

  • Torque wrenches
  • Torque screwdrivers
  • Dial gauges (DTI)
  • Micrometres
  • Depth micrometres
  • Vernier calipers

The standard we work to

We calibrate to ISO 6789-2:2017. Our reference equipment comes from Norbar, and Norbar recertifies it every two years, so what you get back is traceable to a recognised standard.

A Certificate of Calibration is not the same as a Certificate of Conformance

A new torque wrench usually ships with a Certificate of Conformance. This confirms the tool met the manufacturer’s requirements when it left the factory, but it does not confirm that it remains accurate after a year of regular workshop use, accidental knocks or impacts, and general wear and tear.

A Certificate of Calibration is a different thing. We test your wrench at multiple points across its working range, check the readings against a traceable standard, and record the result along with the measurement uncertainty and the conditions we tested it under. What you get back tells you what the tool is actually doing today, not what it was built to do when new.

Cost and turnaround

Most jobs are turned around in 24 to 48 hours. Pricing starts at $100 for clockwise-only calibration, or $135 if you need clockwise and anti-clockwise.

Sending us your tools

Courier your tool to our Palmerston North workshop from anywhere in New Zealand, or drop it off yourself if you’re local. We’ll call or email once it’s done and sorted for getting back to you.
