Massey University School of Aviation
Supporting New Zealand’s next generation of pilots
Massey University School of Aviation has been training pilots since 1990 and remains the only university-level provider of aviation training in New Zealand. With a fleet of 15 aircraft and a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and educational excellence, Massey delivers a unique blend of practical and academic aviation education. Their Bachelor of Aviation (Air Transport Pilot) programme is supported by a tightly scheduled, compulsory-attendance training environment—making aircraft availability and engineering support absolutely critical.
A shared commitment to safety and performance
Fieldair’s engineers service a standardised training fleet of Diamond DA40 and DA42 aircraft—chosen for their modern, glass cockpit configurations that mirror commercial airline environments. A strong safety culture is central to Massey’s operation, and Fieldair has shown a clear alignment with this ethos.
“They’ve been responsive to our expectations around safety and culture, and we’ve seen real progress in how closely aligned our teams are now.”
Reliable support that keeps training on track
With a full-time training schedule and compulsory attendance, aircraft reliability is essential. Fieldair’s on-site base, backed by additional workshop resources, allows them to respond quickly and minimise downtime.
“Having their team right next door makes a real difference—when we need extra support, they’re close at hand.”
Engaged and community-minded
Fieldair’s connection to the School goes beyond technical support. They also sponsor the Fieldair Engineering Limited Aviation Systems Award, presented at each of the School’s twice-yearly graduation ceremonies, in recognition of student excellence in aircraft systems.
Built on collaboration and trust
The working relationship is open and constructive, with regular meetings and direct, solution-focused communication.
“We’ve appreciated their adaptability over the years. They’re committed to meeting our needs, and we continue to have confidence in the support they provide.”
